Tips to sell yourself in a video interview

With new recruitment strategies being adopted by recruiters due to the coronavirus pandemic, remote working has become a new trend and something that will stick even in the years to come. So, interviews are now done virtually to maintain social distancing.
For a remote employee, video interviews should be something you want to be good at to sell yourself.
Tips on how you can sell yourself in a video interview.
Find the perfect spot
When we say perfect spot, we mean a spot in a room with a lock. There should be enough natural or artificial lighting to make yourself look presentable and clear. Ensure that no outside sound disturbs you. Tell your family and friends beforehand to not disturb you or make too much noise. Lock the door from the inside so that your pet or anyone will not be able to walk in during the interview.
Dress appropriately
Even through a video, you want to make a first good impression. So, dress like you would for a face-to-face interview. Dress smartly from head to toe. They may not be able to see you from the waist down but dressing for the interview will give you more confidence. Do not overdress or overdo the jewelry. You could never go wrong with semi-formals. Bear in mind that you need to look presentable and professional.
Be confident and enthusiastic. Be you
To sell yourself in a video interview, you need to show your authentic and cheerful personality. Be energetic and start by giving the interviewer a warm welcome. While you do need to kick up your confidence and optimism, you need to present the real you as well. Just be yourself. This way, you and the interviewer will be able to see if you’d fit in well with the company’s culture.
Mind your body language
Treat the video interview like it is a face-to-face interview. Sit up straight but not too stiff to the point that it becomes uncomfortable. Do not have anything such as a chewing gum in your mouth. Maintain eye contact with the interviewer and smile occasionally. Do not fidget or play with your hair or pen either.
Provide your answers clearly
There is a chance that the network connection may face some interruptions which means that the audio may not be at its best. So, ensure that the interviewer will be able to hear you properly by speaking out clearly. Also, make sure that you provide sufficient answers.
End on a good note
At the end of the interview, thank the interviewer for their time and for giving you the opportunity with a smile. Send them a thank you note within 24-hours after the interview. Thank them and tell them that you are eagerly waiting to hear back for them. Showing your appreciation and enthusiasm can go a long way in landing you your dream job.
Also, before the interview, do not forget to do a thorough research on the company you are to be interviewed for and the interviewer. Don’t forget to do a mock interview to boost your confidence.
We hope the above-mentioned tips help you in acing your video interview.
